It's no surprise that more and more people are turning to massage therapy for relief from injuries, chronic and acute conditions and stress. Year after year the numbers increase, as our society's worklife and homelife become more demanding.
Aside from those who receive massage for stress reduction and general relaxation, many mainstream health care professionals, such as osteopaths, acupuncture physicians, chiropractors, dentists, physical therapists and psychologists utilize massage therapy in conjunction with their treatments. Reports also show that increasing numbers of primary care physicians and family practitioners encourage their patients to pursue therapeutic massage as a treatment. Many physicians use massage for their own treatment!
Research has shown that massage has lessened or relieved symptoms of arthritis, asthma, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic and acute pain, circulatory problems, headaches, immune function disorders, insomnia, fibromyalgia, myofascial pain, reduced range of motion, sports injuries such as pulled or strained ligaments, stress and temporomandibular joint dysfunction. Massage has been shown to help promote the growth of premature infants, and helps supports the gestational process in pregnant women, and can improve the outcome of their labor.
